After Effects tutorials and scripts

Note that these tutorials/expressions/scripts were written mostly when I was in high school.  My favorite tutorial of the bunch is the one at the bottom "Creating a Stylized Tornado using Expressions."

In this section I plan on having tutorials focusing on motion graphics and visual effects.  Most of these tutorials include Adobe After Effects, but others will likely include Photoshop, Maya, and Combustion.  This section is a little sparse right now, but I have a few more tutorials I am working on.

distributing layers in a cylinder using expressions

This tutorial focuses on creating two expressions, to allow you to distribute layers into a cylindrical pattern.  The expressions used are very customizable, and allow you to easily tweak/keyframe many attributes of the cylinder including radius, position, how many layers on each row, and the gap betwwen each layer.  Note that this tutorial also goes over the basics on how to use expression controls.

Making layers repel each other using expressions

In this tutorial, we will see how to use a quick expression to have layers repel or attract each other, which can be handy in a number of situations.

using expressions to overcome limitations of the numbers effect

This is a fairly basic tutorial which focuses on how to use text layers and expressions to overcome some of the limitations inherent in the text > numbers effect in After Effects.

creating a stylized tornado using expressions

This tutorial shows you how to use a few expressions to create a sylized "tornado of particles" effect.

render settings script

This After Effects script enables you to select a comp and, with the touch of a button, set all layers to best quality, turn on motion blur, turn on visibility, set the comp shutter angle, and turn on frame blending.  All of these options can be turned on/off in the script's UI.  It also includes the option to affect nested comps.  This script was designed for AE 6.5 and AE 7.0, if I was going to rewrite it for AE CS 3, I would put it in as a panel.  Note that this script is pretty old, and I wrote it the summer after senior year of high-school.

spiral expressions project

This After Effects project contains an expression that can be used to generate spiral shaped motion paths.  It's pretty basic.  Click on the link above to view more information about it.
